DeepL Translate Adds Edit Mode and File Translation to Web and Mobile Apps

DeepL, the machine translation solution, has added new edit mode and file translation features to its official website and mobile app. This feature update, announced on April 29th, significantly enhances user convenience.

First, the newly introduced "Edit Mode" that allows post-translation editing is noteworthy. DeepL Pro subscribers, regardless of whether they use Starter, Advanced, or Ultimate plans, can utilize this feature for documents under 50,000 characters in formats such as DOCX, PPTX, PDF, HTML, TXT, and XLIFF. Previously, users had to download the file and open it with a separate program to modify the translated text. Now, editing can be done directly on the DeepL website.

Specifically, in Edit Mode, clicking a word while editing the translated text suggests alternative translations and displays the definition, usage examples, and synonyms of that word, helping to improve the quality of the translation. The translated text is displayed in the right panel where you can directly edit the content, and the source text is displayed in the left panel, allowing for easy comparison. After editing, you can download the updated translated version by clicking the 'Download Edited Translation' button at the bottom of the screen without needing to save a separate file.

This update also enables Excel file translation from the desktop app. While Excel translation has been supported since last November, it is now also supported in the Mac and Windows desktop apps. Only DeepL Pro users with Advanced and Ultimate plans can access this feature.

Furthermore, the iOS and Android mobile apps now allow scanning and translating text from PDF, HTML, and TXT files. DeepL explained that this update, encompassing desktop, web, and mobile, significantly enhances the mobile app user experience. They plan to continue improving features to provide convenient and high-quality translation services.
